Panthers Hit 3 Home Runs; Beat Harvey 11-8

The Euclid Panther Baseball team had the long ball working for them on Friday May 7th as they connected on three home runs to take down visiting Painesville Harvey, 11-8.

Throughout the first two innings of play, it looked as if the games was going to be a low scoring pitchers duel, as neither team was able to produce a run. Aidan Turos started the game for Euclid and Ty Howard came in in the 2nd inning and took it into the 7th.

Harvey was first to break the scoreless tie as they were able to string back to back base hits to start the 3rd inning and then bring in a runner on a sacrifice fly to center field. The Panthers were able to get out of the jam thanks to a slick defensive play that trapped the Harvey runner in between home and third and they were able to tag him out attempting to score to end the inning trailing only 1-0.  After tagging out the runner at home Nate McClure started the third inning with a leadoff single to begin the rally.  After stealing second base, McClure would score on an Odavion Sledge double to right field to tie the score at 1-1.  Ty Howard would single to give the Panthers runners on the corners with 1 out and senior Brandon Krivacic at the plate. Sledge would score on a passed ball to give Euclid their first lead at 2-1. Krivacic would draw a walk to bring up fellow senior Mo Haynes with two on and 1 out.  Haynes would connect and drive the ball to center field and clear the fence for a three run homer.  Euclid would lead 5-1 after three innings.

Harvey would respond with another run in the top of the 4th to bring the score to 5-2 heading into the bottom half of the fourth and Harvey was able to keep Euclid off the board to keep the score at 5-2.  Harvey wold take advantage of a fielding error and combine it with timely hitting as they had 4 singles in the inning on their way to four fifth inning runs to retake the lead at 6-5.
In the bottom of the fifth with two outs, Haynes would again come to the plate. Mo connected again, this time a solo shot to center to tie the game at 6-6.

In the 6th, Harvey would again tally three singles in the inning as well as draw two walks to score two more runs and lead 8-6. In the bottom of the sixth, Mike Webber drew a walk and Will Mason singled to right field to bring up Ty Howard with with the bases loaded and two out. Howard would deliver the game tying hit, a two RBI single up the middle that scored Webber and Mason. Krivacic came up next with a chance to give the Panthers the lead again late in the game.  With two on and 2 out, Krivacic delivered, smashing a ball to center field for a three-run home run.  This would be all the runs the Panthers would need, giving them an 11-8 lead.

Josh Cerjan came on to pitch the 7th inning for Euclid in an attempt to get the save and secure the victory.  Cerjan made short work of the Harvey hitters, striking out the side in order to secure the 11-8 win for Euclid.

Haynes led the way going 2-3 with two HRs and 4 RBIs, Krivacic went 1-3 with the game winning 3-run HR, Howard and Sledge each went 2-4 as well.
