The Euclid Lady Panther Basketball Team finally opened their season Wednesday night as they traveled to play GCC opponent Brunswick. The Panthers took some time to adjust to game speed early but settled down in the second half in a 34-72 defeat to the Blue Devils.
The first half of the game was an adjustment period for Euclid as they went up against a Brunswick team that had already played in 8 games. The Panthers found some success early by going inside to Senior forward
Alexis Reese for 6 first half points to lead the Panthers at the break trailing Brunswick 11-47.
The Panthers settled down in the second half and found more of a rhythm after a rocky start. They began to get more comfortable offensively and began making shots in the third quarter. Reese doubled her first half total in the thrid frame by scoring 6 more points in the period. Yajhaira Reid added 4 points,
Erin Miller tallied 3 in the third and
De'Asia Huggins got on the board as well. The third quarter score was 15-18 in Brunwick's favor.
The fourth quarter saw Euclid get to the free throw line and convert on 6 free throws in the quarter. Huggins added another basket and the Panthers won the fourth quarter 8-7. The Lady Panthers played much better in the second half, to a score of 23-25 in favor of Brunswick in the second half.
Euclid was lead by
Alexis Reese with 15 points and Yajhaira Reid scored 8.
The Lady Panthers return to the court on Saturday January 16th as they travel to Solon for another GCC matchup. JV will begin at 5:45 with Varsity to follow.
Brunswick won the JV game 44-14.
